Great Lakes Cold Storage Participates in Cleveland Indians Week of Caring
(SOLON, Ohio) November 16, 2009 — On Monday, November 16, 2009, Great Lakes Cold Storage was proud to accept more than 100 cases of Tyson Foods chicken and to donate storage of that chicken to help kick off the Cleveland Indians’ “Week of Caring.” Coordinated by the Salvation Army of Greater Cleveland, the chicken will be stored by Great Lakes for the next month or so, until December 17, 2009, when the food will be distributed to the area’s needy families.
In all, more than 30,000 lbs. of chicken is currently in storage.
This marks the second year that Tyson Chicken has donated product to The Cleveland Indians Charities, Progressive Insurance and the Cleveland Food Bank partnership, in an effort to help less fortunate families in Northeast Ohio.
The Great Lakes Companies is proud to play a role in helping to feed families in need during the holiday season.

Great Lakes Companies Partner with Salvation Army, Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court To Store Holiday Turkeys
(Cleveland, Ohio) November 24, 2008 -- Great Lakes Cold Storage and Great Lakes Cold Logistics have partnered with the Salvation Army of Greater Cleveland to store approximately 300 turkeys that will go to families less fortunate during the holiday season.
The turkeys come courtesy of an annual tradition begun by the Honorable Peter M. Sikora, Judge for the Cuyahoga Court of Common Pleas Juvenile Division, whereby sentences for offenders include the donation of a turkey to the Salvation Army. The turkeys were brought directly to the Juvenile Court on East 22nd Street in Cleveland where members of Judge Sikora’s staff and officers with the Salvation Army coordinated their loading onto a Great Lakes Cold Logistics truck to be shipped to the Great Lakes Cold Storage facility in Solon.
“The effort to help out less than fortunate families during the holidays is just one way that we can give back to others,” commented Pat Gorbett, CEO of Great Lakes Cold Storage. “We’re thankful to Judge Sikora and the Salvation Army for letting us help them.

Great Lakes Companies Truck Goods, Donations to Appalachian Valley
(Solon, Ohio) Great Lakes Cold Storage and Great Lakes Cold Logistics partnered to send a truck full of goods and other donations to a mission center in the rural Appalachian Valley of northern Kentucky. The goods were donated to the Appalachian Mission Center to be distributed to needy individuals and families.
The idea for the donation came after Pat and Mary Lee Gorbett, owners of Great Lakes Cold Storage, listened to a message from Father Ralph W. Beiting who leads the Appalachian Mission Center, and who also was in Cleveland speaking to the Saint Michael’s parish of Independence, Ohio, earlier this year. Father Beiting spoke on the work of the mission center, which is to help the poor and impoverished people of Appalachia by offering a variety of services, including the distribution of material goods, support and home-repair services.
“We’ve made it part of our corporate mission at the Great Lakes Companies to help those in need whenever we can,” said Pat Gorbett, President and CEO of Great Lakes Cold Storage. “My wife and I heard Father Beiting’s talk, and we wanted to help.”
Pat and Mary Lee went to work, passing out flyers internally, and spreading the word about Father Beiting’s work to employees at Great Lakes Cold Storage and Great Lakes Cold Logistics.
“My wife and I asked members of our team in Solon and in Pennsylvania to help gather items to donate, and a good number of them pitched in. A sincere ‘thank you’ goes out to all the people here who helped.”
A truck full of goods and donations departed the Solon Cold Storage Warehouse on Tuesday, October 28, 2008, courtesy of Great Lakes Cold Logistics and arrived in northern Kentucky later that day. Continued Gorbett, “We’re very fortunate to have the things we do, and particularly during the coming holiday season, we will always try to help those who are less fortunate.”

WAL-MART SELECTS NEW PARTNER FOR ITS CONSOLIDATION PROGRAM
SOLON, Ohio (June 2008) – Great Lakes Cold Storage, in conjunction with ICS Logistics, has been recently added to the Wal-Mart list of Authorized Consolidation Programs.
“This partnership has provided us the opportunity to grow our company in many ways,” said Howard Schillinger, executive vice president of Great Lakes Cold Logistics. “To work with Wal-Mart directly in this capacity has been a fantastic experience and we look forward to a long-lasting collaboration.”
Wal-Mart has traditionally supported consolidation programs with some of the larger corporate distribution companies. But, by attracting several Wal-Mart suppliers as storage customers, and providing service to all Wal-Mart Distribution Centers, the Great Lakes and ICS Logistics partnership was able to build the critical mass to qualify as a Wal-Mart Consolidation Program.
